Sweeney Family

Adriana, Alyssa, Bryce, Olivia, and Serena were born to Tom and Candace Sweeney on August 24, 2003. They were born 13 weeks early and spent several weeks at Children’s Hospital prior to their homecoming in October. It was at Children’s Hospital where they were linked with Delaware County’s Help Me Grow program and, in turn, to the Delaware County Developmental Disabilities Early Intervention program as they were “at risk” due to their premature birth along with developmental risks being quintuplets.

The Sweeney family experienced the excitement of being involved with a Good Morning America segment and the Dr. Phil show this past fall. The focus was “How do we emotionally and financially take care of five babies when we were only expecting to have one?” Tom resigned from his job as a supervisor at a mortgage title company and is now at home with the babies and runs a
tight ship. Through his careful organization and coordination of daily tasks that need to take place, the babies are eating and sleeping well, gaining weight, and are very content. Candace has returned to her job at Bank One as a licensing specialist, which is around the corner from their home in Lewis Center, making it easy for her to take her lunch hour with Tom and the babies, assist with feeding, and have the opportunity to spend time with them. Community volunteers also assist with feedings.
Tom and Candace are doing a fabulous job of caring for their babies. They are calm, relaxed, and in control, which has a definite impact on their children’s development.
