Sylvia Wigal

Sylvia Wigal, 10, looked forward to the Delaware County Fair and worked hard all summer. Sylvia has fed, watered and walked her three calves daily...from her wheelchair! She is a member of the Ostrander Merry Shamrocks 4-H Club and also receives advice from her older brother and sister. Sylvia has independently raised three calves and uses a wheelchair and a hand controlled lawn mower purchased through Family Support Services to do the cleaning of the stalls, haul straw and feed her animals.

Sylvia, who has spina bifida, showed for the first time at the 2003 fair. She and her three calves earned first, second and third in their classes during the Junior Fair steer and feeder calf show and Sylvia is very happy with the results. Fair officials report this is the first time someone with a disability has exhibited a large animal at the fair.
